Congratulations to all the winners in the 2012 National Disability Awards which were announced last week. The Other Film Festival (OFF) was honoured to be among the finalists this year. in such a strong field. Arts Access Victoria’s Executive Director and OFF General Manager Simone Flanagan were both guests at the awards ceremony in Canberra.
This meant that both Veronica, Simone and along with Arts Access Victoria Chair Lesley Hall, the following day they were able to be present in Parliament to hear Julia Gillard introducing the long awaited National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) legislation.
It was a moving and momentous experience for all those in the gallery that day. We felt privileged to have been there to witness an historic moment, one that many in the disability community have has spent years advocating and fighting for.
